King
(2017)
“King” was presented in Luna Park Melbourne in 2017 as part of our “Voyages” project.
Based on the original 1920s electric automaton “Old King Cole” that was based at Luna Park for over 60 years until a fire destroyed that section of the park, “King” sits as a re-imagining of our priorities nearly a century after the creation of the original. Fun and imagination has become linked strongly with online connectivity, a perpetual work schedule, and distraction to the point of disarray. Typing from keys sprouting from this legs, “King” laughs uncontrollably as he struggles to contain himself, pulled all directions from ever-present trends and connectedness.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
Our thanks to the staff of Luna Park Melbourne for their invaluable support of “Voyages” project.
